Shoe Storage Sorted. Chocolate Not Sorted.

I was very sad to find that I only had three Maltesers in my fun-size bag today. Last time I had one, there were six in there - and I was impressed. Disappointed!

My meager afternoon snack :(
In other (happier) news, I have sorted my shoe issue! For now, anyway. The solution is really not very attractive.

Not the best photos, but hopefully you get the idea.

It is no secret that I am quite frugal. These two babies set me back a whole $3.50 each. Like I said, they're not the best looking and they're not particularly good quality. I thought they would be a thin canvas, but they're more like a thinner, cottonier (totes a word!) version of those grocery bags you can buy for a dollar or two each from Coles/Woolworths. Also, the plastic on top is wrinkly and makes it a little hard to see when there is a light directly overhead.

The main reason I bought them: I was tired of picking up a pair of shoes and quickly throwing them across the room and asking the boyfriend to check for spiders. I am sure he was tired of it too, so a sealed shoe storage solution was needed. Besides, there wasn't any room for them in the bottom of the wardrobe anymore...

As you can see, each 'box' has 12 compartments, meaning I had room for 24 pairs of shoes. I shoved my sandals in there too, as they managed to squeeze in beside some softer flats. I managed to store about 30 pairs in them, all up. Unfortunately I had too many pairs of flats to even consider storing any heels in there. They are still in their original boxes in the wardrobe, and some shoved in a basket with some leftover flats and other shoes that didn't fit. Still not perfect, but at least my flats are spider-free!

Here is a link to an eBay listing selling these for around $3.30. They are shipped from Hong Kong, so they will take at least a week... but for that price, who cares? If you need a temporary shoe-storage solution, I'd recommend these. Especially if you have some shoes that you prefer to keep clean and dust/spider-free. Be aware though - they are flimsy, the separators between the compartments aren't joined to the bottom, so your shoes can slide around a bit when you drag it all out from under the bed, and they are not pretty.

Well I think that is quite enough rambling for today. I already have a post in mind for tomorrow, so come back then! :)

xx

  1. Oh no, can't believe you only got 3 Maltesers! :( I would be really mad, I love my chocolaty snacks!

I like your shoe storage too - I had one of these and eventually donated it I think, it got too frustrating with the shoes sliding around the compartments. I didn't think to store it under the bed though, that would have been a better option...oh well :P

    1. Isn't it sad! My craving wasn't satisfied at all!

I do wish the compartments were completely separated, I was quite disappointed when I received them :( But they're doing a good job of keeping the spiders and dust out, so I can't complain too much. They're very cheap if you ever decide you need more ;)

    2. They are very cheap, they are a lot cheaper than what I paid for mine! At least they keep the spiders out :)

I have these shoe boxes from Ikea that have little clear plastic windows you can open up, so you can stack them high as you like and open the windows to take shoes out without disturbing the shoe tower. However I fill them with bags...haha. I really need a crazy shoe closet like Mariah Carey or something! then I'd have an excuse to shop more to fill it ;)

    3. Ooh I love the idea of individual boxes for my handbags! Not so much for my shoes, as I don't have enough space for 50 boxes haha, but I have a smaller number of handbags... will have to think about that! :)

I like your thinking re: more shopping!!
